In early 2015, Wilson Bowden Developments announced its intention to commence work on a 65 acre site in the heart of the midlands, offering a wide range of industrial and commercial accommodation and office space, ranging from small SME units to vast warehouses.
With its nationally-central location, conveniently situated directly off Jnct.21a of the M1 motorway just outside Leicester, the strategic positioning of Wilson Bowden’s Optimus Point development proved irresistible to a host of businesses from many different sectors. From brewers to bakers to fashion retailers, from US toy makers to timber importers, none could ignore the site’s logistical credentials.
Winvic Construction were selected as the Main Contractor, and YSIS were very keen to be involved in the development from the beginning, and were delighted to extend their long-standing positive working relationship with them by steadily winning contract after contract, resulting in them cladding the whole development within two years.
As Contracts Director, Andy Thompson, explains; “We are acutely aware that you are only as good as your last job, but by concentrating on core disciplines, such as health and safety, adherence to programme and attention to detail, we repeatedly impressed the Main Contractor and Developer and subsequently secured every cladding contract on a the whole site, something we are very proud of.”
Despite the striking difference in size of the units, the architects were keen to bestow a sense of unity on the site, and chose to specify CA Twin-Therm on the roof and a mix of CA’s Twin-Therm, Micro Rib and Prime Rainscreen with Kingspan’s composite Architectural Wall Panel on the walls across all units. The result is a diverse but pleasingly cohesive development.
